Brian isn’t back.. Scatterbrain is here

In a moment of history repeating itself, a cover of a Taylor Swift song is the catalyst to something potentially big. Brian Burkheiser has released a cover of the song “Look what you made me do” as the introduction to his solo venture Scatterbrain

While dealing with issues currently preventing a release of his original music, Brian has given his fans this cover to show he is here, and he is ready to be heard.

Known for years as the clean vocalist for I Prevail, this year the band and him parted ways. This cover serves as a throwback to the cover I Prevail released of “Blank Space” which launched them into fame.

On the first listen of the song, you hear Brian’s signature voice and range that fans loved. He puts his own little twists in the song to make it more relevant and brings a sound to it that feels unique despite the number of other covers this song has received. One thing that I noticed in the song is the emotion that Brian shows and gives to it. It presents itself in a few more harsh vocal moments that fans only occasionally heard during live shows of I Prevail

I love the video concept and the story in it. It starts with a headstone stating “here lies Brian Burkheiser’s phases”. As the video progresses you see Brian singing and playing with a masked band. However the scenes and backgrounds are all throwbacks to previous videos with his former band. Just like the cover is a throwback, the video itself gives plenty to his past and the message on the headstone becomes clear. From the grave of his past, we get Brian’s rebirth as Scatterbrain.

As a big fan of I Prevail for a long time, I am happy to see Brian moving forward. I am happy that he is still making music and I’m excited for when he is able to release it. I hope that he does it in a way that keeps his neck and vocal cords healthy while still producing the music we know he is capable of.
